Crime Night – Yorkshire Crime

November 12, 2023 @ 19:00 21:00

As part of the 2023 Farsley Literature Festival, join us in the Old Woollen for our second session of Crime Night – Yorkshire Crime with Bella Ellis, RC Bridgestock and JM Hall.

Crime and Yorkshire Crime in particular, is always extremely popular with our customers at Truman Books. With that in mind we are bringing you an evening featuring some of Yorkshire’s finest crime writers, in a panel style event.

Rowan Coleman is the internationally bestselling and award winning author of fifteen novels including He Memory Book, The Summer of Impossible Things and The Girl at the Window. Her latest novel From Now Until Forever was published in August 2023. A life long Bronte fan, under the Bronte inspired pen name Bella Ellis, Rowan also writes the Bronte Mysteries – a carefully researched series of novels that imagine that before they were were famous the Bronte Sisters were amateur detectives. The Vanished Bride, The Diabolical Bones, The Red Monarch and A Gift of Poison are all out now.

Former Head of CID Bob Bridgestock is now an international best selling author, along with his wife Carol who also worked for WYP as a civilian employee. The couple, who write under the pen name of R. C. Bridgestock, were voted WHS Readers #8 Best Crime Authors of All Time.

The writing duo created the character DI Jack Dylan, a detective from Harrowfield; presently there are nine books in the Dylan series and 2020 saw the launch of a new series starring a feisty, Yorkshire female Detective Inspector, Charley Mann.

The couple are the storyline consultants/police procedural on BAFTA winning BBC1 police drama Happy Valley, Scott & Bailey, Britbox original The Beast Must Die, as well as other police dramas and documentaries including the recent C5 documentary about the Yorkshire ripper, and The Child Snatcher – Manhunt – Robert Black, a two part film on C4.

The couple are also Directors, and Co-Founders of Walking The Line Ltd. Presently they are working on a six part docu/drama series optioned by Leeds Production company Hell Fir.

Carol & Bob are working on their 14th book.

JM Hall is an author, playwright and deputy head of a primary school. His plays have been produced in theatres across the UK as well as for radio, the most recent being Trust, starring Julie Hesmondhalgh on BBC Radio 4. Jonathan will also be chairing our Crime Night-The Psychologists View session, which is just prior to this event.

His Yorkshire based crime novels are A Spoonful of Murder, and A Pen Dipped in Poison.

Ticket prices to our individual Crime Night sessions are £10.  If you wish to attend both Crime Night sessions, you can purchase a ticket for just £15.
