SUMMARY:An Evening to Discover the Secrets of the House on Otley Road
DESCRIPTION:Join us on publication day as we raise a glass to support author Rosa Silverman as she launches her gripping debut novel set right here on our doorstep. Find out more about her inspiration behind the thrilling Leeds-based crime drama. \n\n\n\nTwo murders. Twenty years apart. One truth to be uncovered. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Book \n\n\n\nLeeds\, 2019 \n\n\n\nOlivia Kavanagh reinvented herself when she went to Uni. She’s trying hard to fit in with her much more worldly flatmates\, but constantly feels like the odd one out. When she discovers that another girl was murdered in a burglary gone wrong not only in their house\, but in her bedroom\, twenty years before\, she becomes obsessed. She starts asking questions\, not knowing how much danger they will put her in. \n\n\n\nLeeds\, 1999 \n\n\n\nEmily Pierce couldn’t care less what her flatmates think of her. The only person she cares about is Aidan\, her tutor\, and the man with whom she’s having an affair. On New Year’s Eve\, her plans to have the best night ever are cut short – it will be her last. \n\n\n\nJournalist Kate Marsden is sent to cover the story\, first of Emily’s death and then Olivia’s twenty years later. When she realises the cases are linked\, her investigation leads to places she could never expect \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Author \n\n\n\nRosa Silverman grew up in Leeds and is now a senior feature writer at The Daily Telegraph\, reporting on social and political issues. She has a background in news journalism and spent years criss-crossing the country and sometimes Europe to cover breaking stories\, recognised with a BASW Social Work Journalism Award in 2025. SUMMARY:Truman Book Club Social – Tuesday 30th June
DESCRIPTION:At Truman’s Book Club Social in June\, hosted at Cargo Wines here in Farsley\, we’ll be discussing the book The Power by Naomi Alderman. \n\n\n\nA ticket to attend Truman’s Book Club Social is £18. This includes the book (which will be available for you to collect in the shop once you’ve made a booking online) and your first drink on the evening (beer\, wine or soft drink). If you already have the book\, you can select a ticket that will include a £10 Truman’s Gift Voucher instead of a book. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Book \n\n\n\nA WINNER OF THE WOMEN’S PRIZE FOR FICTION \n\n\n\nAll over the world women are discovering they have the power. With a flick of the fingers they can inflict terrible pain – even death. Suddenly\, every man on the planet finds they’ve lost control. The Day of the Girls has arrived – but where will it end? \n\n\n\n‘Deserves to be read by every woman (and\, for that matter\, every man)’ – The Times \n\n\n\n‘Electrifying’ – Margaret Atwood \n\n\n\n‘A big\, page-turning\, thought-provoking thriller’ – Guardian \n\n\n\nWhen & Where? \n\n\n\nThis Truman’s Book Club Social will take place on Tuesday 30th June\, 6.30pm (for a 7pm start)\, at Cargo Wines\, Sunny Bank Mills. One of the benefits of us hosting our Book Club in a Wine Bar means that when the book chat is done\, if you wish\, you’re free to stay on to continue to enjoy the company and the conversation\, and maybe another drink or two. \n\n\n\nWe’d like a relaxed evening of booky chat\, so if the thought of sitting round in a big circle feels a little intimidating\, this is the Book Club for you. Our aim is to have a more informal feel\, with smaller groups sat chatting around tables. We can help you find a seat and make sure everyone feels comfortable. \n\n\n\nWe’re thinking an hour of chat about the month’s book (and the topics and experiences it leads to). In the future\, we’d love to be able to welcome guest authors to join us to discuss their books. \n\n\n\nHope to see you there!
