SUMMARY:Truman’s Book Club Social – Tues 26th May
DESCRIPTION:At Truman’s Book Club Social in May\, hosted at Cargo Wines here in Farsley\, we’ll be discussing the book The Names by Florence Knapp. \n\n\n\nA ticket to attend Truman’s Book Club Social is £18. This includes the book (which will be available for you to collect in the shop once you’ve made a booking online) and your first drink on the evening (beer\, wine or soft drink). If you already have the book\, you can select a ticket that will include a £10 Truman’s Gift Voucher instead of a book. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Book \n\n\n\nA once in a generation debut from a major new talent\, The Names is the story of three names\, three versions of a life\, and the infinite possibilities that a single decision can spark. \n\n\n\n‘A genius idea for a book’ – Sunday Times \n\n\n\n‘Wildly original and emotionally profound’ – Observer \n\n\n\nIt is 1987\, and in the aftermath of a great storm\, Cora sets out with her nine-year-old daughter to register the birth of her son. Her husband intends for her to follow a long-standing family tradition and call the baby after him. \n\n\n\nBut when faced with the decision\, Cora hesitates. Going against his wishes is a risk that will have consequences\, but is it right for her child to inherit his name from generations of domineering men? The choice she makes in this moment will shape the course of their lives. Seven years later\, her son is Bear\, a name chosen by his sister\, and one that will prove as cataclysmic as the storm from which it emerged. \n\n\n\nOr he is Julian\, the name his mother set her heart on\, believing it will enable him to become his own person. Or he is Gordon\, named after his father and raised in his cruel image – but is there still a chance to break the mould? \n\n\n\nPowerfully moving and full of hope\, this is the story of three names\, three versions of a life\, and the infinite possibilities that a single decision can spark. It is the story of one family\, and love’s endless capacity to endure\, no matter what fate has in store. \n\n\n\nWhen & Where? \n\n\n\nThis Truman’s Book Club Social will take place on Tuesday 26th May\, 6.30pm (for a 7pm start)\, at Cargo Wines\, Sunny Bank Mills. One of the benefits of us hosting our Book Club in a Wine Bar means that when the book chat is done\, if you wish\, you’re free to stay on to continue to enjoy the company and the conversation\, and maybe another drink or two. \n\n\n\nWe’d like a relaxed evening of booky chat\, so if the thought of sitting round in a big circle feels a little intimidating\, this is the Book Club for you. Our aim is to have a more informal feel\, with smaller groups sat chatting around tables. We can help you find a seat and make sure everyone feels comfortable. \n\n\n\nWe’re thinking an hour of chat about the month’s book (and the topics and experiences it leads to). In the future\, we’d love to be able to welcome guest authors to join us to discuss their books. \n\n\n\nHope to see you there!
